Heat the oil in the pan and add the onion. Cook the onion on low heat until softened
Add the chicken to the pan with the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, sweet paprika powder and cumin powder and mix well to combine. Fry the chicken in the pan until the outside is browned. Then add the water and let it stew for 45 minutes with the lid on the pan. Check regularly that the chicken is not boiling dry. If that happens just add some extra water.
When the chicken is cooked through, pull it apart with two forks. Or use an electric hand mixer.
Preheat the oven to 220 degrees Celcius.
Add the BBQ sauce to the shredded chicken and mix well.
Put the chicken in the oven and bake for 15 minutes. The BBQ sauce will now be better absorbed by the chicken and you will also get some crispy pieces of chicken.
Your pulled chicken is ready to be used however you like it!
