Heart-Shaped Beef Empanadas

Ingredients
  

  • 400 gr Puff pastry
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 1 carrot peeled and finely chopped
  • 500 gr minced beef
  • 1 tbsp tomato puree
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp masala
  • pinch of nutmeg
  • 50 gr frozen peas
  • 3 eggs hard boiled and cut in chunks
  • 3 pickles finely chopped
  • handful celery leaves finely chopped
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • 1 egg beaten

Instructions
 

  • In a pan cook the onion and carrot until soft.
  • Add the meat and cook until brown.
  • Add the tomato paste and cook for about 30 seconds. Add the nutmeg, cumin powder, masala, salt and pepper.
  • Add the peas and let it simmer for a couple of minutes.
  • Add the pickles, celery leaves and eggs. Mix well and let it cool.
  • Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius. Cut hearts out of your puff pastry. Place some of the meat mixture on 1 piece of heart and cover it with a second piece of heart. Seal the edges with a fork.
  • Brush with the beaten egg and bake in the oven for about 15 minutes or until golden brown. Enjoy!
